No, I have not seen your lipstick, why would you even ask me that?

I'm insulted!

Every time something goes missing around here, everybody looks at me!

For your information, I don't even wear that shade.

It doesn't flatter my complexion and it tastes terrible.

R U putting on enough SunTan lotion?

The experts say you need at least a nickel size amount for your face and 2 shot glasses- size for the rest of your body. Plus it's important to put it on at least 20 minutes before you are ready to leave to go where you are going in order for time to allow the lotion to sink into your skin.

So many of us think that as long as we apply it when we get there and head out into the sun we are protected.
I know that was the way my mother did it. Actually that was the way I did it with my kids.
BUT we know so much more now.

A Child's View of Thunderstorms

A little girl walked to and from school daily.

Though the weather that morning was questionable and clouds were forming, she made her daily trek to school.

As the afternoon progressed, the winds whipped up, along with lightning.

The mother of the little girl felt concerned that her daughter would be frightened as she walked home from school. She also feared the electrical storm might harm her child.

Full of concern, the mother got into her car and quickly drove along the route to her child's school.

As she did, she saw her little girl walking along.

At each flash of lightning, the child would stop, look up, and smile.

More lighting followed quickly and with each, the little girl would look at the streak of light and smile..

When the mother drew up beside the child, she lowered the window and called, 'What are you doing?'

The child answered, 'I am trying to look pretty because God keeps taking my picture.'

May God bless you today and everyday as you face the storms that come your way!

Project I did today.

Since I am going to be painting my bedroom, I wanted to redo this in a different color. I got this gold table cloth at the salvation army store for 75 cents the other day. I got out the staple gun and went to work.

I tucked in the sides rather than trying to bunch them up and put the button back in the center because there was to much material and staples from the other material. The other material was good and I just put this over that material. Since this bench won't actually be being used much the tucked in material won't be a problem. It is being put at the end of our bed just to look nice. And I do lay my clothes out on it as I take them out of the closet before I get dressed.

Jesus and a dog

A Nativity Scene was erected in a church yard.
During the night the folks came across this scene.

An abandoned dog was looking for a comfortable,
protected place to sleep. He chose baby Jesus
as his comfort. No one had the heart to Send
him away so he was there all night.

We should all have the good sense of this dog and
curl
up in Jesus' lap from time to time.

From Lamp Shade to Flower Vase.

I picked this lamp shade up at the Salvation Army Store yesterday for $1.50. Just had to have it. It went so well with my sofa I recovered a few years back. I just loved the way the flowers on it went all the way around it in 3 different spots. But not to overwhelm it.
I already had the flowers to put in it just waiting to be put to some use. Then I had to go through my ribbon stash and find the right one to accent this.
As you can see I think I found the right ribbon for the job. Although I am not sure of the length as of yet. I might still cut it down a bit and shorten it.

This is the end result. With it setting a top the coffee table Larry's folks gave him, which by the way is over 35 yrs old.

All in all I would say the lamp shade was a GREAT find for $1.50.

Special Extra Earnings for Military Service

http://www.ssa.gov/retire2/military.htm

Since 1957, if you had military service earnings for active duty (including active duty for training), you paid Social Security taxes on those earnings. Since 1988, inactive duty service in the Armed Forces reserves (such as weekend drills) has also been covered by Social Security.

Under certain circumstances, special extra earnings for your military service from 1957 through 2001 can be credited to your record for Social Security purposes. These extra earnings credits may help you qualify for Social Security or increase the amount of your Social Security benefit.

Special extra earnings credits are granted for periods of active duty or active duty for training. Special extra earnings credits are not granted for inactive duty training.

If your active military service occurred

  • From 1957 through 1967, we will add the extra credits to your record when you apply for Social Security benefits.
  • From 1968 through 2001, you do not need to do anything to receive these extra credits. The credits were automatically added to your record.
  • After 2001, there are no special extra earnings credits for military service.

How You Get Credit For Special Extra Earnings

The information that follows applies only to active duty military service earnings from 1957 through 2001. Here's how the special extra earnings are credited on your record:

Service in 1957 Through 1977

You are credited with $300 in additional earnings for each calendar quarter in which you received active duty basic pay.

Service in 1978 through 2001

For every $300 in active duty basic pay, you are credited with an additional $100 in earnings up to a maximum of $1,200 a year. If you enlisted after September 7, 1980, and didn't complete at least 24 months of active duty or your full tour, you may not be able to receive the additional earnings. Check with Social Security for details.

Legal Loophole in Michigan Helmet Law

From the Detroit Now News
Friday, March 17, 2000

Police in metro Detroit are baffled over an old state law. Michigan law requires those driving motorcycles to always wear helmets, but police are concerned about a loophole in the law that won't allow them to pull over motorcyclists without helmets.

This has become a huge problem for police. They were hoping that this would not leak out to the public so soon, but as it stands now, Michigan's mandatory helmet law for motorcyclists is being called legally invalid.

"I didn't know," said one motorcyclist.

If longtime bikers are surprised, police are dumbfounded.

"This law has been in effect for years. No one to our knowledge ever even caught this. This is something recently caught by an attorney," said Chief Emery Price of the Westland Police Department.

Police stumbled upon what's being called a legal loophole of disastrous proportions. A motorcyclist who had been ticketed for riding without a helmet challenged the law and won.

"Being that there are no established requirements as to the type of helmets, there's a lack of notice, so therefore the ordinance fails," said Westland Attorney Angelo Plakas.

Michigan's law mandating helmets was approved when it went into effect years ago. But a judge was recently forced to drop the fines against the biker who wasn't wearing a helmet.

After further investigation, Westland police found 19 other courts throughout Michigan have recently been forced to do the same.

"With the warm weather coming, there's going to be some problems," said Chief Price. "There's going to be some serious injury or death caused by some of these people out here not wearing their helmet."

Westland police and other jurisdictions have reluctantly sent memos to their officers, saying do not pull over bikers who are not wearing helmets because according to the ruling it's against law.

"I still have the helmet on always," said one motorcyclist.

The Westland police have been in contact with the Michigan Attorney General's Office. The attorney general still believes that this law is valid, however they are going to check into this and find out for certain next week.

If necessary, they will make immediate corrections. In the meantime, police are asking bikers to please wear helmets

The Haircut

One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut.

After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, 'I cannot accept money from you , I'm doing community service this week.' The florist was pleased and left the shop.

When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a 'thank you' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replied, 'I cannot accept money from you , I'm doing community service this week.' The cop was happy and left the shop.

The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a 'thank you' card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

Then a Congressman came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill, the barber again replied, 'I can not accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The Congressman was very happy and left the shop.

The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen Congressmen lined up waiting for a free haircut.

And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the citizens of our country and the politicians who run it.

BOTH POLITICIANS AND DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON!

Our President has lied to us again !!! Do you have $150-$250 to lose a month?

New Tax in January ~ No one seems to know about this........

This is bad! Really, really bad!!!!!!!!! Be sure to read this and check out the link at the bottom of the page.

CLICK ON THE LINK AT BOTTOM OF EMAIL!!!!!!!!!!

I just received a lengthy e-mail about a new tax few know about. Rather than forward the entire message I will condense it, but recommend you check out the link at the bottom to read the Washington Times editorial.

This will affect most of you because it is a payroll deduction, so you might also want to forward it to your kids or young friends so they can be prepared also. $150 to $250 per month is not chump change.

We will all be taxed $150-$250 PER MONTH beginning in 2011 for the NEW Community Living Assistance Services and Support Act (CLASS Act) that was added to the Reconciliation Bill on Friday night, Mar 19, 2010, before Congress voted on Sunday, Mar. 21, 2010. It will help pay for long-term home-care for the elderly.

In January of 2011, the government will start taking between $150-$250 out of our paychecks every month. ALL of us will be taxed on this one rich or poor, everyone except people who don't have a job. If you have a job and get a pay check, the government will take this tax from you.

And there's more to this surprise! The program won't begin for five years, and they don't expect to pay out anything for at least 10 years. So we get a head start on paying for it. Isn't that great? The government will take our money and put it in their savings account for at least 10 years, and then they will start giving it to other people.

The CLASS ACT, (isn't that a great name for it?) was apparently a pet project of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, who was never able to get support for it because it was just to costly. What a wonderful tribute to Senator Kennedy! I know he would be so proud of Nancy for getting this done for him.

Liquid Hand Soap Recipe

Liquid Hand Soap Recipe

Learn how to make your own liquid soap, and you'll wonder why you ever paid
for it:
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 10 minutes of hands-on time
Here's How:
Grate or finely chop a bar of soap (about four ounces of soap). Bring four cups of water to a boil.
Turn off the heat, and add the soap. Stir to melt the soap. Continue stirring until the mixture is fully combined. At this point the mixture will be very liquidy. Allow the mixture to cool for at least 15 minutes. Then, stir again. At this point, the soap should be slightly thicker.
Allow to cool for another several hours or overnight. Stir to check the consistency. If it seems too liquidy, reheat and add more soap. If it seems too thick; reheat and add more water.
Once you're satisfied with your soap, add a few drops of essential oil and coloring, if desired.
Then, pour your soap into dispensers, and enjoy.
Tips:
Want to make a bigger or smaller batch? Just use one cup of water for every
ounce of soap. This recipe stores well. Make up a big batch, a few times a year. Results will vary depending on the type of soap used. Tweak the recipe until it meets your needs. For a super-smooth consistency, run the finished soap through a blender before pouring into dispensers.
What You Need:
A bar of soap
A knife or grater
Water
A sauce pan or pot
Essential oil (optional)
Soap coloring (optional)
Empty soap dispensers

The Amazing Cucumber

The Amazing Cucumber

This information was in The New York Times several weeks ago as part of their "Spotlight on the Home" series that highlighted creative and fanciful ways to solve common problems.

1. Cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need every day, just one cucumber contains Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Zinc.

2. Feeling tired in the afternoon, put down the caffeinated soda and pick up a cucumber. Cucumbers are a good source of B Vitamins and Carbohydrates that can provide that quick pick-me-up that can last for hours.

3. Tired of your bathroom mirror fogging up after a shower? Try rubbing a cucumber slice along the mirror, it will eliminate the fog and provide a soothing, spa-like fragrance.

4. Are grubs and slugs ruining your planting beds? Place a few slices in a small pie tin and your garden will be free of pests all season long. The chemicals in the cucumber react with the aluminum to give off a scent undetectable to humans but drive garden pests crazy and make them flee the area.

5. Looking for a fast and easy way to remove cellulite before going out or to the pool? Try rubbing a slice or two of cucumbers along your problem area for a few minutes, the phytochemicals in the cucumber cause the collagen in your skin to tighten, firming up the outer layer and reducing the visibility of cellulite. Works great on wrinkles too!!!

6. Want to avoid a hangover or terrible headache? Eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed and wake up refreshed and headache free. Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish essential nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in equilibrium, avoiding both a hangover and headache!!

7. Looking to fight off that afternoon or evening snacking binge? Cucumbers have been used for centuries and often used by European trappers, traders and explores for quick meals to thwart off starvation.

8. Have an important meeting or job interview and you realize that you don't have enough time to polish your shoes? Rub a freshly cut cucumber over the shoe, its chemicals will provide a quick and durable shine that not only looks great but also repels water.

9. Out of WD 40 and need to fix a squeaky hinge? Take a cucumber slice and rub it along the problematic hinge, and voila, the squeak is gone!

10. Stressed out and don't have time for massage, facial or visit to the spa? Cut up an entire cucumber and place it in a boiling pot of water, the chemicals and nutrients from the cucumber with react with the boiling water and be released in the steam, creating a soothing, relaxing aroma that has been shown the reduce stress in new mothers and college students during final exams.

11 Just finish a business lunch and realize you don't have gum or mints? Take a slice of cucumber and press it to the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 30 seconds to eliminate bad breath, the phytochemcials will kill the bacteria in your mouth responsible for causing bad breath.

12 Looking for a 'green' way to clean your faucets, sinks or stainless steel? Take a slice of cucumber and rub it on the surface you want to clean, not only will it remove years of tarnish and bring back the shine, but is won't leave streaks and won't harm you fingers or fingernails while you clean...

13. Using a pen and made a mistake? Take the outside of the cucumber and slowly use it to erase the pen writing, also works great on crayons and markers that the kids have used to decorate the walls!!

Pass this along to everybody you know who is looking for better and safer ways to solve life's everyday problems.

Something I haven't done before

I know up til now I haven't shown a pic of myself but I just came across this pic of my hubby and myself and just wanted to share it. Yes now you know I am just 4ft. 6in. tall. Yes that means I am a dwarf. Yes I was teased as a child. Even though I had 4 brothers, I wasn't spoiled being the only girl in the family. I had to learn how to work on cars and motorcycles if I wanted my fathers attention. Since I was the only girl he didn't know how to show any attention to me. So I had to vie for his attention in becoming a tomboy. Even though we didn't spend alot of time together we were alot alike. Strong headed, easy going and easy to forgive. I spent lots of time with my mother and learned how to pinch a penny. With a family of 7 and her making ends meet the way she did was a miracle. My father was a bad drinker so that came first before the bills and food. But mother always made sure there was food on the table.
But as I look back on those days I see that it was the Lord that made it all work, not my dad or my mom. See I asked him into my heart when I was all of 10yrs. old. Started praying my heart out that my dad would stop his drinking. Well he finally did, many years later when he blew his head off. Something I had trouble trying to tell my 2 children, then 15 and 16. That was when I realized that our prayers DO get answered but in Gods time NOT our time. I wasn't mad at God at the way my dad died. Actually I was happy that he was finally gone. Happy because his drinking wasn't hurting the ones that loved him any more.
My life has been hard but I keep strong because I have our Lord holding my hand every step of the way.
This is but only a glimpse into the torment of my life of the past.
But as of the last 10yrs. it has gotten much brighter.

Now you know a little more about me. How about you sharing a bit about yourself and sending me the link?

God Bless,
Christina

Wal- Mart to pay $27.6M in Ca. dumping case

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has agreed to pay $27.6 mil. to settle allegations that it improrerly handles and dumped hazardous waste at stores across California in a case that led to change in the retailer's practices nationwide, prosecutors said.
The settlement ends a five-year investigation involving more than 20 prosecutors and 32 environmental groups. They alleged that each of the company's 236 stores and distribution centers across California, including Sam's Club warehouse stores, were in violation of environmental laws and regulations, said San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis.
Wal-Mart was accused of improperly disposing of pesticide, fertilizer, paint, aerosols and other chemicals. In one case, Dumanis said a Solano County boy was found playing in a mound of fertilizing near a Wal-Mart garden section. The yellow-tinted powder contained ammonium sulfate, a chemical compound that causes irritation to people's skin, eyes and respiratory tract.
"Today, a corporate giant has been held accountable for its actions, and Wal-Mart is cleaning up its act," Dumanis said.
Wal-Mart still may shell out more money because of civil and criminal investigations by federal officials into allegations that the company's handling of hazardous waste violated environmental laws in California, Missouri and Washington, D.C. The federal cases are still pending, including California.

Oh where, oh where have I been...

Well ---
Without internet for the most part. I was using my cell phone as my modem until I did a "stupid" thing and get my phone updated. At the service center they neglected to inform me that "IF" I got the updates I would no longer be able to use my phone as a modem. So long story short I have no recourse. I spent weeks on the phone with my cell phone company, "Sprint" to only hear there was nothing they could do. Not even if I upgrade to new phones. So I am upset to say the least.

So I searched other places to get internet. Verizon was a good choice as my neighbor has them through their phone line called a Data line. Well a few more weeks dealing with them only to hear that I can't get internet through them since I haven't had a land line at my home in a number of years. Apparently the phone company "sells" your phone line when it hasn't been used in a few years. That was new news to me. I know they give your number away but didn't know they sold your line.
Anyway I have internet now. Hopefully I can keep this one for some time. I'll keep paying the bill as long as they keep me hooked up.

God Bless,
Christina

Everything's taken care of.....***UPDATE***

When I hear someone say that I think "wow- I don't have to worry about anything."
WELL- not in this case. My daughter and son-in-law were having a problem in their apt. with mold and their landlord wouldn't do anything about it. They had found out it was the cause of the kids constantly getting sick all winter long. All the landlord said was bleach down the walls and that will take care of it. Well it didn't- it came back. They had 2 months left until their 2 kids were out of school for the summer. They were going to try and just wait it out.
They had told me about it last weekend and had told the other mom about it too. Well she took it upon herself to call the kids on Tuesday morning and told them to pack their belongings, that they were moving. She was on her way up to their house (a 1 1/2 hr. drive) and was bringing a uhaul for their stuff. """"She had everything taken care of.""""" Well the kids rushed to pack and she showed up at 4:30 and just threw their things in a pick-up and a flat bed trailer. Said to leave the rest. Then 1/2 hour away from their home asked them where they were gonna stay when she got them down to where she was bringing them? What-- wait a minute--- didn't you say you had everything taken care of?? Then when they got to the storage unit-- she turned to my daughter and asked how much money they had because THEY had to pay for it. AGAIN--- didn't you say you had everything taken care of..... So my daughter calls me crying and asking what they are going to do. Now they have no home to go back to because their landlord seen them moving out and no where to go to. Her mom-in -law doesn't even have a home of her own--- she lives with a friend and her husband. So she says you guys can't live with me. And they can't live with his sister and her family. Our place is too small for them to stay with us. There are 5 of them and we only have a 2 bdrm place. I feel so bad for them.

How could anyone say such a thing as "I have everything taken care of", and then turn around and do something like this to your own kids and grandkids??? It's like just putting them out into the streets. They don't even have a vehicle to get around with.

My question to my friends is--- if someone told you "they had everything taken care of" what would that mean to you?????
